My Granddad brought his family to Brighton on summer day trips, to escape a drab post-war London. He found utopia in a pot of cockles, a deck chair and a bottle of light ale. I found a utopia of my own in a city with broad horizons, which is what inspired me to set up a studio here in 2010.

Flying Time Aviation are one of three of the biggest commercial flying schools in the UK. With new premises planned on the site of the Shoreham Airport, their ambition to expand into the 21st century was not matched by their current branding. The brief was to develop a brand identity that reflected the clean, dynamic nature of aviation, as well as something of the old glamour of a career as a pilot ‘The Dream’.
The first stage of the re-brand was to address the naming issue. Flight Time Aviation was neither dynamic or modern and meant very little to anyone outside of the industry and so this was abbreviated to FTA. The focus for all students is to achieve 1st Officer status which is indicated by 3 gold stripes on the cuff and epaulet. With this in mind we developed a marque with this to be the central feature. The main typographic element was inspired by some of the classic airline marques, so reflecting ‘The Dream’. Typography and colour were established as clean, simple elements and a secondary element was developed in the form of a dynamic chevron pattern that would bring texture to the brand identity.
